A Featured Neighbor!

Lilypad Place is a web neighborhood that provides useful, helpful information in a friendly environment. Cindy Barnhart is a featured neighbor!

Cindy Barnhart is the executive director of Festival Dance and Performing Arts Association, an energetic not-for-profit organization that nurtures the art of dance. Cindy is passionate about dance in all forms, and her passion began when she took her first ballet class as a 4 year old, from none other than Festival Dance! She believes that dance cultivated her sense of humor, creativity, and ability to walk in high heels. She has the distinct pleasure of managing an excellent group of dance instructors at Festival Dance Academy, and hopes to provide dancers with the grace and confidence to achieve their dreams........

Cindy believes her success is attributed to an innate curiosity of all things, a sense of humor, a willingness to look silly at times, a persistent positive attitude, a polite interest in people, and clean hair.......

Farmer's Market Performances- Success!

This summer, Festival Dance had the opportunity to perform at the Moscow Farmer's Market five different Saturday mornings. We must give a big thanks to the City of Moscow, and the Moscow Arts Commission's director, Kathleen Burns, as well as Jared and others that helped make the Farmer's Market entertainment a success.

Our dancers performed youth hip hop, lyrical jazz, a mini-musical, tap, Celtic, and read poetry for the crowd. I could not have been more proud!
(See Boogie Woogie Bugle Boy in picture left.)
Our performers are a testiment to the high quality classes we provide, and the benefits one derives from a good dance education.

Yours in dance,

HPERD is Awarded Grant to Study Important Children's Health Issues

THE PROJECT: Professor Jeff Seegmiller and his colleagues in the College of Education Department of Health, Physical Education, Recreation and Dance (HPERD) are studying critical children’s health issues in hopes of making important discoveries about bone health. The team has been awarded an $11,217.85 grant from the Institute of Translational Health Sciences (ITHS) to conduct a pilot study titled “Pre- and Postintervention Measures of Bone Strength Among 7- to 12-Year-Old Girls.” The pilot grant is designed to help investigators obtain proof of concept for preparing and supporting full-scale grant applications.
“This study will help us gain better understanding of the impact on bone density in children when they participate in activities, and what types of activities can prevent future bone problems, like osteoporosis and fractures,” said Seegmiller.
